Hood to Coast 2024: Captaining a 200-Mile Relay Adventure

Picture this: You’re standing atop Mt. Hood at the end of August, freezing your butt off, surrounded by a sea of singlet-clad runners, all jittery with a mix of excitement and sheer terror. Why? Because you’re about to embark on a 196-mile team relay race to the Oregon coast. Welcome to Hood to Coast, the mother of all relay races and quite possibly the most masochistic way to spend a weekend with friends.

How Did We Get Started in Race Directing?

As we celebrate our 10th anniversary in 2024, I wanted to share the story behind our journey, which actually began long before we officially launched in 2014. Our race directing history dates back to 2006.

About the Kick It Event Management Blog

Let’s face it – running events are a blast, but they don’t just happen by magic. That’s where The Kick It Event Management Blog comes in. We’re dishing out the good stuff for everyone from weekend warriors to hardcore race directors. Whether you’re into leisurely jogs or you eat ultramarathons for breakfast, we’ve got something to keep you coming back for more. And for those brave, aspiring race director souls behind the scenes? We’re lifting the curtain on what it really takes to pull off an event that runners will rave about for years.

Think of us as your go-to spot for all things running and event planning, including corporate and private events and even an occasional wedding. We’ll chat about everything from crushing your next PR to making sure porta-potties are in the right spot (trust us, it matters). Expect real talk from runners who’ve been there, done that, and got the chafed nipples to prove it. We’re not just spouting theories here – our team has logged countless miles and orchestrated events ranging from cozy community 5Ks to sprawling city marathons. We’re talking training tips, race reviews, gear reviews, and the kind of war stories that’ll make you laugh, cringe, and nod in solidarity.

Whether you’re lacing up for your first 5K or plotting world domination via the Oktoberfest Half Marathon, we’ve got your back. And for you brave souls organizing races? We’re serving up the secret sauce to make your event the talk of the town. From race timing, navigating permits, race sponsorship and plotting courses to corralling volunteers and keeping runners happy (and hydrated), we’re breaking it all down. So grab a banana, pull up a chair, and let’s geek out about running and putting on killer events. Because at the end of the day, we’re all in this together – chasing that runner’s high and the satisfaction of a well-executed event.
